Rain forests threatened Again in Brazil

“No Gringo should stick their nose where it does not belong.”

-Brazilian President, Lula de Silva in reaction to environmental activists James Cameron and @yogiSTING Sting protesting a new hydroeletric dam that is being built in the Amazon rain forest. (Associated Press, June 22, 2010).

The rain forests belong to all of humanity not just the Brazilians. It is quite possible that the cure for cancer may be discovered in the rain forests.  Of course the rain forests and the oceans sequester 20% of planet’s greenhouse gasses.

  1. I think it is disgusting that a president of a country can be so ignorant of what is going on in his forests, just so he can line his pockets…

Well Hamid you know money is power in so many people’s view and greed will corrupt those who destroy the good things we need in life. We need the rain forest to stay just as it was created to be, but people don’t care about that at all.

  2. Jenice Bozeman says:

wow…. why do we have to add things unecessary to nature. What is the reason for the dam? Is it going to protect the forest from loggers or people trying to burn it down. I just don’t understand where people come up with these things….

  3. drhochberg says:

Jenice, Unfortunately you are right..it comes down to greed and power. In this time we need to be thinking about the future for our great grand children and beyond.
